Creating a Show Bible

A series or episodic bible is an essential part of every TV series’ pre-production.

But what is a show bible, and why is it such a crucial pre-production element?

A show bible is a document that outlines a television series's characters, plots, settings, and themes. Writers pitch show bibles to network executives and production companies in the hopes of securing a production agreement. Once the show is "picked up" and turned into a series, this show bible becomes a living document. It is modified as the series progresses, incorporating new characters, information, background details, etc. No two series bibles are alike. To stand out, you may want to employ your own visual and informational presentations. Other terms for a series bible include pitch bible, pitch sheet, and TV series bible.
